About

“For me, art transcends any and all types of boundaries, creating a universal language that transforms ideas into felt experiences. Science is how we explain the world; art is how we make sense of it.”

LML Burkhard is a planetary scientist and installation artist whose work bridges the gap between analytical and creative expression. Before earning a B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Geology & Geophysics, LML completed a B.A. in Multimedia Arts and spent ten years working as a creative and traveling yoga teacher - experiences that continue to shape a multidisciplinary perspective on science. With professional experience in spacecraft imagery analysis, geologic mapping, programming, and scientific illustration, LML brings deep expertise in planetary science and data visualization. LML’s artistic practice focuses on large-scale installations that connect human experiences with natural processes, emphasizing sustainability through minimalistic and resourceful techniques. Sculptures, paintings, animations, character designs and soundscapes alter perception and create immersive experiences.

Artist-in-Residence: From April 27-May 2 2025 at the EGU General Assembly in Vienna, Austria, LML created Clouds of Insights, a sculptural installation crafted from discarded conference posters. The project explores the transient yet impactful nature of scientific ideas, reflecting how research evolves and shapes individual perception.
